William "Bill" Dobson

July 3, 1954 - April 3, 2018

The CBTH festival community sadly lost one of its most influential and long-serving voices on April 3, 2018 with the passing of our dear friend Bill Dobson. The news came as quite a shock to everyone, as Bill seemed to be in good health, his usual positive, energetic self, and was gearing up for another grueling farming season. Everything seemed normal.

But God thought it was his time… and our heartbreak begins.

Bill loved music.  All kinds.  Recorded or live, it didn’t matter.  He also loved to sing, and was very good at it.  He supported so much of the local music scene; choirs, house concerts, fairs, folk clubs and festivals. The local music scene, especially the Come By The Hills organizers, are indebted to him for his service, expertise and enthusiasm.  Bill was beloved by all.

Bill was an executive member (Vice President) of the Battle River Music Society – organizers of The Come By The Hills Music Festival - for its first four years.  He was instrumental in so many components of the event – reaching out to prospective partners, stage and grounds design, performer contacts, beverage gardens, security and first aid, and generally – along with Jim Zadorozny – the ambassador or ‘face’ of the festival within the community.  William's strength was with people; he thrived at being a ‘behind the scenes’ influencer within our region, with the ability to turn a ‘no or probably not’ into a “yes!”

We dedicate the 2018 festival to our “Beverage Garden” guru and all-around great man; Bill Dobson.  We don’t know how we’ll pull everything together this year without you sir.  But we’re sure gonna try!... to make you proud of not only this year’s version, but all the festivals we host in the future.

Our sincerest condolences to his family and especially to his beautiful new bride Sherry (summer 2016).  You are all in our prayers.

William - we miss you already and forever.
