October, 2015

Come By The Hills 2015 is over; the tents are put away, the bills are paid, the memories are stored and we are in the process of planning for Festival 2016!

On behalf of the organizing committee of the Come By the Hills Festival (officially the Battle River Music Society), I would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who helped put that great weekend together. The hosts, Cliff and Kate Brown, all the sponsors who made sure we could pay those bills, the tremendous talent we saw on stage, the sound crew who worked through a very wet Saturday, and most of all the tireless volunteers.

We are blessed with a crew of folks who give up work time and family time and play time to come out to the site at Mistahiya to clear brush, mow grass, set up tents, tables and chairs, and the thousands of tasks necessary to put on such an event. It has been said before and it bears repeating: No event such as the Come By The Hills Festival is even possible without that dedicated band of able and willing workers.

Our thanks to all of you who attended the weekend as performers, workers or audience. We were baptized with rain so, fingers crossed, next year it will be all sunshine all weekend!

The BRMS will be holding its Annual General Meeting at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Mistahiya. The meeting will be followed by a pot luck meal. Please consider joining us as we plan for the future.

Come By The Hills 2016 will be held on August 12 & 13, 2016 — we hope you will SAVE THE DATE and join us for a fabulous weekend of music and fellowship at Mistahiya.

Come by the hills to the land where life is a song.
And sing while the birds fill the air with their joy all day long.
Where the trees sway in time, and even the wind sings in tune.

Come by the Hills, a traditional song (sung by both Celtic Thunder (Damian McGinty), and Canadian Loreena McKennitt) perfectly describes a music festival nestled in the beautiful Battle River Valley in East Central Alberta.

We had an amazing weekend of friends, food, weather, and most importantly MUSIC at the 2014 Come by the Hills Music Festival.  The line-up was amazing!  Get your tents and campers ready… we are hoping to do it all over again in August 2015 out at the Mistahiya hills.

Thanks for sharing the weekend with us.  It was the first time in our four-year history that we were self-sustaining.  Yes!  When the dust settled, we had actually made a little bit of money that we can turn around and invest in talent for 2015.  The Battle River Music Society (and its amazing group of volunteers) has already sat down to review the successes and challenges associated with our 2014 festival, and started the wheels turning to bring you and even bigger and better festival weekend in 2015.  Stay tuned to this site and Facebook for more updates.
